To the south of the Nile flourished one of Africa’s greatest and powerful ancient empires, The Kingdom of Kush. Originally from Nubia, the Kushites conquered Egypt and became the first Black Pharaohs to rule the land of the pyramids. They were a kingdom of warriors, innovators, and rulers whose influence rivalled the greatest civilizations of the ancient world. In Kush, queens ruled as Kandakes; fierce leaders who commanded armies and defended their empire with strength and authority, while their people lived with dignity and nobility. As we pay homage to a fallen dynasty, another dynasty rises, descendants of many tribes, united with one common goal. Kush celebrates the brilliance of African civilization, its legacy of power, intelligence, and pride that still echoes through time.
